ABOUT THE ACADEMY
WALIPP-TSU Preparatory Academy is a unique HISD Charter School founded by the William A. Lawson Institute for Peace and Prosperity, WALIPP. It was conceived by Mrs. Audrey Lawson, and was founded to meet the critical academic and social development needs of youth. Targeting middle school males, the Academy is an authentic (real-world) learning community. In the fall of 2011, the Academy will open an All-Girls Middle School for grades 6, 7 and 8.

The Academy uses a creative academic and experiential curriculum to build student success and to develop the total person. Its highly qualified staff and program support have been constructed to:

* Enhance student preparedness.
* Enable competitive success
* Ensure marketability of students

At WALIPP-TSU Academy, we feel that we must bring what we teach and how we teach into the 21st century. Our education program is a response to the overarching need for the development of skills that are in demand in the 21st century. WALIPP-TSU Preparatory Academy’s program goes beyond the teaching of reading, mathematics, social studies and science through the envelopment of an integrated curricular approach that encourages students to:

* think critically and make judgments;

* solve complex multidisciplinary problems;

* develop creativity and entrepreneurial skills;

* communicate and collaborate;

* possess strong information, media, and technology skills;

* make innovative use of knowledge, information and opportunities; and

* take charge of financial, and civic responsibilities

The vision for WALIPP-TSU is to provide a rigorous and comprehensive educational opportunity for learners, offering high-quality education and enhanced academic and social development that will effectively equip our students with the tools needed to succeed in college and in a diverse, global society. Our students participate in exciting project-based learning activities in a technology-rich learning environment where expectations are high and student success is expected. Global vision, 21st century technology, solid Energy-infused coursework, career exploration, collaborative problem solving, community field-lessons, job shadowing and internship opportunities, self-direction and social responsibility are the driving forces that shape the educational experiences at WALIPP.
