Academic Departments
Each of our departments utilize Grant Wiggin’s Understanding By Design framework in planning an implementation of curriculum. Departments also work across the curriculum in order to develop well rounded scholars.
Richard A. Tapia Department of Mathematical Application
Our math philosophy is architectural at its core. Research supports that nearly 50% of Americans suffer from some form of dyscalculia.

Melanie Lawson Division of Literacy, Writing, and Speaking Excellence
Great writing, speaking, and reading abilities are the foundations of a successful adulthood. We work to foster in learners the value of literacy skills in a holistic framework.
Mae Jemison Department of Scientific Exploration
Questioning and thought-provoking scientific labs drive our science department. Students are allowed to research, investigate and engage in scientific inquiry. Students are also exposed to the vast array of occupational opportunities in the field of science.
Paul Robeson Department of Athletics, Arts, Activism
WTSUPA is an athletically and academically competitive environment. Notwithstanding, we facilitate well-roundedness through appreciation for the arts and activism.
Exposure
We do believe that exposure is a cornerstone for all learners. With that, we work to make certain to use our resources to expose our scholars through trips, assemblies, college visits, tours, museums visits, academic competitions, etc.
