S.T.R.O.N.G. Behavior

S.T.R.O.N.G.

S.T.R.O.N.G. is WALIPP TSU Preparatory Academy’s learner protocol. This protocol drives learning and student discipline.

S = Sit Up
T = Track the speaker with your eyes
R = Raise your hands to raise Socratic questions
O = On time, On point, On task, Optimistic
N = Never disturb learning through acts of immaturity
G = Get emotional or physical control or get help.

Prohibited Scholar Conduct:

All scholars should conduct themselves in an appropriate and civil manner, with proper regard for the rights and welfare of other scholars and other members of the school community, and for the care of school facilities and equipment. Scholars who violate these school rules will be required to accept the consequences for their conduct. Scholars may be subject to disciplinary action, up to and including suspension from school, when they engage in:

Conduct that is disorderly.
Conduct that is insubordinate.
Conduct that is disruptive.
Conduct that is violent.
Conduct that endangers the safety, morals, health, or welfare of others.
Any form of academic misconduct.

Disciplinary Penalties:

Disciplinary action in most cases will be firm, fair and consistent so as to be the most effective in changing scholar behavior. For non-violent behaviors, discipline will be progressive. This means that a scholar’s first violation will usually merit a lighter penalty than subsequent violations. Scholars who are found to have violated WALIPP-TSU Code of Conduct may be subject to the penalties enumerated below, either alone or in combination. The school personnel authorized to impose penalties will be consistent with the scholar’s right to due process and TEA Educational Law.

1. Oral warning
2. Written warning
3. Written notification to parent(s) or guardian(s)
4. Detention
5. Suspension of athletic participation
6. Suspension from extracurricular activities
7. Suspension from other privileges
8. Removal from classroom by teacher
9. Short-term (three days or less) suspension from school
10. Long-term (five days or more) suspension from school
11. Indefinite suspension (not more than one year) from school.

Alcoholic, Narcotics, Drugs and Weapons, Fighting:

No drugs are allowed on WALIPP-TSU premises at any time! Programs will be offered with the intent of discouraging scholars from using substances. Scholars found in possession of alcohol or restricted substances will be subject to immediate suspension and/or arrest. If a scholar appears “under the influence” of alcohol or other drugs in class or on school grounds, he will be sent to the Health Office, located on the campus of Texas Southern University. The nurse and/or health aide will examine the scholar and notify Principal and/or a designee, who will notify the scholar’s parents(s) or guardian(s). The scholar and parents will be informed that the scholar must report to the school counselor for a minimum of three sessions for counseling. If a scholar is found “under the influence” on a subsequent occasion, he will be recommended for an alternative setting.
Scholars who are found guilty of bringing a weapon to school will be subject to criminal prosecution by police authorities on the campus of Texas Southern University! They will be removed from the campus and placed in an alternative setting after the first incident.

Scholars who fight will be removed from the campus and placed in an alternative setting after the first incident.
